Build usable sentences
Study the grammar point, then replace the example information with details from your own situation.
Need, should, be willing to and have to
需要 / 应该 / 该 / 得 + VP;愿意 + VPPut these modal verbs before the main action to express necessity, advice, obligation or willingness. In this pattern 得 is read děi and means 'have to'.
No need with 不必 and 不用
不必 / 不用 + VPUse 不必 or 不用 before an action to say that doing it is unnecessary.
Prepositions for purpose or cause
为了 / 为 + purpose + VPUse 为了 or 为 to introduce the purpose or reason for an action.
Potential complements
V + 得 / 不 + complementInsert 得 or 不 between a verb and complement to say whether a result is possible.
Hypothetical condition
如果…,就…;…的话,就…State a possible condition first and its likely result or response second.
Necessary and sufficient conditions
只有…才…;只要…就…Use 只有…才… when the first condition is required before the result can happen. Use 只要…就… when meeting the stated condition is enough for the result in the situation being described.
Purpose clauses with 为了
为了 + purpose,actionPut 为了 and the intended goal before the action taken to achieve it.
