How many words are in HSK 3.0 Level 1?
The HSK 3.0 Level 1 syllabus used by HSK One contains 300 vocabulary entries. This number is different from older beginner lists that many learners still find online, so always check which syllabus a PDF, flashcard deck or textbook follows.
The list is a scope reference, not a complete learning method. Knowing that a word appears on the list does not prove that you can recognise it in speech, read it in a sentence or use it to complete a communication task.
Study words by communication task
A stronger approach groups vocabulary around what the learner must do. For example, a lesson about event information combines days, times, class, start and finish with question patterns. A lesson about shopping combines numbers, prices, quantities and polite requests.
Task grouping creates retrieval cues. Instead of recalling an English translation in isolation, you recall the word because you need it to ask where a class is held, buy an item or explain a simple plan.

Use a four-step vocabulary cycle
First, recognise the pinyin and hear the word. Second, connect the sound to the Chinese characters. Third, read the word in a short sentence. Fourth, produce a new sentence or answer using the word.
Review should alternate directions. Sometimes see Chinese and recall meaning; sometimes hear audio and select the word; sometimes see a meaning and produce Chinese. A deck that always shows the same front and back can create familiarity without flexible recall.

How many words should you study each day?
For a beginner, ten new words per day is already a demanding pace if each word includes sound, characters, meaning and sentence use. At that rate, the first pass through 300 words takes about one month, but stable recall takes longer.
Use spaced review rather than adding new cards indefinitely. A practical session can include ten new words, twenty due reviews, one short listening set and five sentence prompts. Reduce new words when review accuracy drops.
How HSK One organises the list
The vocabulary reference page keeps the complete Level 1 inventory available for lookup. The course selects words for each communication task, and the exercise bank checks listening, reading, vocabulary, grammar and sentence use separately.
That separation is deliberate: the reference list answers “what is in scope”, lessons answer “how is it used”, and exercises answer “can I retrieve it”. Use all three layers before taking the mock test.
