Wǒmen jiā Yuánxiāojié wǎnshang yìbān huì yìqǐ chī tāngyuán. Xiǎoshíhou wǒ hái cháng gēn bàba qù kàn dēng.我们家元宵节晚上一般会一起吃汤圆。小时候我还常跟爸爸去看灯。In my family, we usually eat tangyuan together on the evening of the Lantern Festival. When I was young, I often went to see lanterns with my dad too.

Wǒ jiā yě huì kàn dēng, búguò chī de dōngxi bù wánquán yíyàng. Wǒ nǎinai xǐhuan zìjǐ zuò yì zhǒng xián de diǎnxin.我家也会看灯,不过吃的东西不完全一样。我奶奶喜欢自己做一种咸的点心。My family also goes to see lanterns, but what we eat isn't exactly the same. My grandma likes to make a kind of savory snack herself.

Wǒ yǐqián yǐwéi dàjiā nà tiān dōu chī tāngyuán.我以前以为大家那天都吃汤圆。I used to think everyone ate tangyuan that day.

Bù yídìng. Bùtóng dìfang, bùtóng jiātíng xíguàn kěnéng dōu bù yíyàng.不一定。不同地方、不同家庭习惯可能都不一样。Not necessarily. Habits may differ from place to place and from family to family.

Nà jièshào jiérì de shíhou, zuìhǎo shuō qīngchu shì ‘wǒmen jiā’ huòzhě ‘yǒuxiē dìfang’.那介绍节日的时候,最好说清楚是‘我们家’或者‘有些地方’。Then when introducing a festival, it's best to make clear whether you mean ‘my family’ or ‘some places.’

Duì. Gòngtóngdiǎn kěnéng shì jiārén jiànmiàn, chūqu cānjiā huódòng, dàn jùtǐ zěnme guò háishi yào kàn dìfang hé jiātíng.对。共同点可能是家人见面、出去参加活动,但具体怎么过还是要看地方和家庭。Right. Common points may include family members meeting or going out for activities, but the details depend on the place and the family.

How to describe customs more accurately

Shuō zìjǐ jiā de zuòfǎ: ‘Wǒmen jiā tōngcháng…’说自己家的做法:‘我们家通常……’For your own family: ‘In our family, we usually…’
Shuō yí bùfen dìfang de zuòfǎ: ‘Yǒuxiē dìfang huì…’说一部分地方的做法:‘有些地方会……’For practices in some places: ‘In some places, people…’
Bù quèdìng shì bu shì pǔbiàn qíngkuàng: ‘Wǒ tīngshuō…, dàn bùtóng dìqū kěnéng bù yíyàng.’不确定是不是普遍情况:‘我听说……,但不同地区可能不一样。’If you're unsure whether something is widespread: ‘I've heard…, but it may differ by region.’
Bǐjiào shí kěyǐ xiān shuō gòngtóngdiǎn, zài shuōmíng chāyì.比较时可以先说共同点,再说明差异。When comparing, you can state the common points first, then explain the differences.
